GALLERY 11, WEST TEXAS
The desert has a unique beauty that is often not obvious. The climate and habitat are hostile to most forms of life. Despite lack of rain, extreme heat, poor soil conditions and lots of thorns, The Creator has placed unique life forms here which are not just surviving but thriving.
We love the desert because it is so different from what we are used to in Southeast Pennsylvania. Cacti, rock formations, barrenness, lizards, broad horizions, endless shades of brown, together make it seem like we have gone to a different planet.
Big Bend National Park has preserved the uniqueness of the habitat, keeping man's influences to a minimum. From the Rio Grande river to the reminants of volcanos, life manages to continue.
"He who drives in and drives out without letting the motor cool, may see, to be sure, some most interesting natural objects, but he will not know, and can never love, Big Bend." Freeman Tilden, 1945
Please realize that the quality of these images is reduced for the website. The prints look so much nicer.
